- Synopsis: (Written in 1991) BP's Magnus Field is Britain's most northerly oilfield in the North Sea. The huge jacket on which the production platform is built is the biggest single steel structure in the world. It stands in the deepest water of the North Sea so far developed. The vast scale of the project is captured vividly in this programme. We see the construction of the 40000 ton jacket on land; the 350 mile tow-out to the oilfield; the dramatic upending; the assembly of the huge modules which form the production platform; then finally; the completed platform itself, over 1000 feet tall, gathering oil and gas from wells on the seabed, helping to ensure the continuing flow of energy into Britain The Magnus oilfield is BP's biggest single investment - £1.3 billion - and this programmes is an exciting record of its successful outcome.
